Washington Academy is a coeducational boarding and day school for grades 9 through 12. Founded in 1792, the school is rich in history. It is also a place that welcomes new people and fresh ideas.
The Academy's mission is to provide "success for the individual," allowing you to be challenged by rigorous courses while exploring your own interests and potential. Our curriculum offers over 100 courses including Advanced Placement classes, performing arts, environmental science, computer studies, and even a unique program in boat building. The Academy also has personalized learning programs for students with learning differences and a full-time tutor to provide one-on-one help.
The small New England town of East Machias provides safety and support from strong friends and mentors. The area is famous for its natural beauty, and of course, lobsters. The campus is just two miles from the Atlantic Ocean and within 30 minutes of Canada. Maine, known as "Vacationland," has four distinct seasons and offers students a wide variety of outdoor activities both on the ocean and on land.
"Caring" is the word students use most to describe the Academy's 35 teachers. With a student to teacher ratio of 13:1, our faculty has time to build relationships with their students. You get to know your teachers in the classroom, after school and through any one of our 50 clubs and activities.

With 438 day and boarding students coming from Maine communities, other states, and around the world, Washington Academy is an easy place to build friendships. Small classes ranging in size from six to eighteen students give you an opportunity to interact with your classmates.
