Program Description

Academy by the Sea / Camp Pacific is located on a sixteen acre private boarding school campus* in beautiful Carlsbad, California. Carlsbad is a sunny seaside resort community ideally situated on the Pacific Ocean. The Academy facilities include beach access, a library, swimming pool, gymnasium, weight room, tennis courts, athletic fields, campus store, chapel and an oceanfront recreation center. Academy by the Sea/Camp Pacific offers education, recreation and leadership training.

Academic Program

The Academy's four-week summer session is a co-educational program that balances academics and recreation for a fulfilling experience. Designed especially for students in grades 7-11, the academic program helps students prepare for their upcoming school year and for college.

Our session is designed to assist and enrich students with daily monitoring of academic performance, individual attention and a supportive faculty. Our class sizes are small (an average teacher to student ratio of 1 to 10) in order to provide each student with a personalized arena in which to explore his or her potential. Afternoon activities, special events and weekend excursions allow each student the opportunity to take a break from scholastic responsibilities and build lasting friendships. Students attending the academic session share a common desire to spend four weeks improving their study skills, strengthening their educational backgrounds and having fun.  We are also offering a College Prep course.

Academic Enrichment Programs

Academic Enrichment Programs are interdisciplinary and offer grade-specific learning to reinforce reading, writing, math, science and creative skills. We focus on study skills, time management and developing a passion for learning. The courses that will be offered are Computer Journalism, ESL, Math, Media Production, Oceanography, Reading, Science, Study Skills, and Writing.  Please see our website or brochure for program details.

Academic Credit Programs

We also have courses available for credit: Algebra 1 (A & B), Algebra II (A & B), Biology (A & B), English (9A & 9B, 10A & 10B), Geography, Geometry (A & B), Health, Spanish I (A & B), Spanish II (A & B), and World History (A & B). These courses are for remediation as well as credit towards the next school year. We offer a structured and rigorous academic day that ensures completion of homework and sets students up to pass classes and meet all requirements.

College Preparation & Readiness Education Program (C-PREP)

College Preparation and Readiness Education Program is being held in order to prepare students for college life and view possible alternatives for schools.  The students will go on college tours, learn techniques for taking tests and increasing scores, as well as give confidence that the school they are going to is the right choice for the student.  This course is for high school aged students.

Camp Pacific

Camp Pacific has been providing campers with unforgettable memories since 1943 and continues to provide a safe and fun summer experience for youth ages 7-17. During our sessions, we focus on instructional programs in the morning and a wide variety of afternoon and evening activities to develop a sense of teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. Through activities, campers learn new athletic and recreational skills, gain self-confidence and are encouraged to develop strong friendships while working with their peers. Thrilling trips to area attractions are included in program fees. These trips can include theme parks such as: Sea World, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios and more!

English as a Second Language

Each year, Camp Pacific attracts students from around the world. With this in mind, we offer programs that are customized for our international students/campers. Choose from two exciting options: Everyday English or ESL/Surf. Instruction is conducted in the morning and recreation options in the afternoon. On the weekends, there are excursions planned for Sea World, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, and more.

One-week Surf & Body board Camp

Surf and Bodyboard camp is designed for all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The surf session is one week long and is packed full of fun activities including group beach instruction, classroom instruction, independent practice and field trips all combine for a very exciting week of learning. Campers are taught skills in equipment options, wave selection and basic surfing/body boarding techniques. During the afternoon, campers can take a break from the water and participate in a variety of recreational activities or continue their practice at the beach. All activities are supervised by counselors, certified lifeguards, and experienced instructors.

Camp Challenge

Academy by the Sea/Camp Pacific offers the only summer leadership course west of the Mississippi where students can earn full credit for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).  This course is for high school students.  It is a five-week course that will allow students, both male and female, to learn to lead and follow, as well as gaining a sense of teamwork and self-confidence.

Counselor in Training (CIT)

The CIT program is for campers who have already participated in Camp Pacific and are looking for a leadership role with our camp.  Participants must also be entering Junior or Senior grade level.  This program allows campers to develop into stronger leaders and knowledgeable summer program planners.

Camp Activities

Typical morning and afternoon activities are as follows: arts and crafts, music, talent shows, dance, surfing, body boarding, beach volleyball, sand castle contests, basketball, kickball, softball, skateboarding, hockey, swimming, tennis, ultimate frisbee, and more! Evening activities include: camp fires, music, dance, community service projects and study time (if required).
