OSU strives for global student diversity
For years, Ohio State and other universities focused on recruiting international students primarily from China, India and South Korea because of their emerging economies.
But students from these countries now make up the largest portion of foreign students in the United States, and schools have turned their attention to underrepresented parts of the world, including Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
“We want to reflect the entire international flavor of the world, and you can’t do it by having students from only a couple of countries,” said Mabel Freeman, OSU’s assistant vice president of undergraduate admissions and first-year experience.
